| sfc3 beta patch v534_b ( all languages) (534_b) - File Description |
 |
Description:
this patch works on all languages not just english like it says in the readme below.
Proper Patch Install Method:
1) Uninstall Starfleet Command III using Add /
Remove Programs file in your Windows Control Panel.
2) Delete the SFC3 game folder off of your
system. Commonly the location of the folder is C rogram FilesActivisionSFC3.
3) Reinstall Starfleet Command III from the game
CD, do not install Direct X 8.1 and do not install Gamespy Arcade from the Game
CD, just the Starfleet Command III game itself. Commonly the install folder is
C rogram FilesActivisionSFC3.
4) Check for the latest version of your video
card drivers from the manufacturer of your video card. For Geforce cards, check
the NVidia web site, for Radeon cards, check the ATI web site. Never get video
drivers from a place that is not the manufacturer of your video card. If you own
a laptop, please check with the manufacturer of your laptop for updated drivers.
5) Make sure your version of Windows is up to
date. Go to Microsoft’s windows update and get all available updates for your
Windows Operating System.
6) As a recommendation, Download and reinstall
Direct X 9.0c, if you do not have Direct X 9.0c, it is strongly recommended that
you update to Direct X 9.0c or you will cause others to crash in Gamespy Arcade
or Dynaverse 3 servers. Direct X 9.0c is not compatible with previous versions
of Direct X under direct play and people using Direct X version older than 9.0c
will cause players who have upgraded ( 90% of players) to have severe in game
lag, locked loading screens, or Crash to Desktop issues. This is stated in the
Microsoft Direct X FAQ. Installing an older version of Direct X on top of Direct
X 9.0c will cause Direct X 9.0c to corrupt and will requite DirectX 9.0c to be
reinstalled to fix the corruption. You can get the new DirecX 9.0c from
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/
7) Disable any Anti-Virus that you may be
running on your system while installing the patch. After patching, you may
re-enable your Anti-Virus.
8) Install ONLY this v534_b patch on to SFC 3.
This is a stand alone installer and does not need any other Starfleet Command
III downloads. This file is to be used on a clean, unaltered, unpatched version
of Starfleet Command III.
9) All Troubleshooting steps for SFC 3 are
listed below. Please refer to them if you experience problems with Starfleet
Command III. You can also refer to the SFC 3 Readme v534.rtf file included in
your SFC 3 game folder after patching.
Remember to turn off any Anti-Virus software prior to Server Kit install.. you
can re-enable Anti-Virus once the kit is installed. Anti-Virus may corrupt the
install of the Server Kit.
SFC 3 Game Fixes Client Side:
30 July 2004
SFC3 Patch version 1.01 Build 534_b
1) Dynaverse - Planet and Base hexes flip
normally. Defense Value now changes by 1 per victory or loss.
2) Scimitar now player selectable by default in
skirmish and campaign modes.
3) Full Nemisis Add-On material enclosed.
Includes Nemisis readme file and Nemesis Concept Art which was not contained in
any previous game version patches (only in the Nemisis v464 Add On pack).
4) Borg Armor health too weak in v534 and v534a
patch levels. Borg Armor health raised to patch v500 and v531 levels in
HullItems.gf.
5) Borg tractor health too low in v534 and v534a
patch levels. Borg tractor health raised to v500 and v531 levels in
HullItems.gf.
6) Expanded trouble shooting in the SFC 3 Readme
v534.rtf file.
Trouble Shooting Clients and Players:
1)If you are using Windows, it must be an
English version of Microsoft® Windows® 98/ME/2000/XP operating system with the
regional setting set to English. Your Video card and DVD regional settings must
be set to English as well.
2)If you are using an Anti-Virus, turn off
Anti-Virus before installing the patch. Anti-Virus is known to corrupt the
patching process of thousands of programs. Once you are done patching, You can
turn your Anti-Virus back on.
3)When installing Star Trek Starfleet Command
III®, Do not install DirectX® 8.1 or Gamespy Arcade from the game CD, these
items will corrupt DirectX® 9.0c on your system.
4)Make Sure that your system is completely up to
date from Microsoft® Windows® Update web site (
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp ).
5)Make sure you you are using the latest version
of DirectX® on your system. It is recommended to install DirectX® 9.0c (or
newer) on your system. If you already have DirectX® 9.0c, it is recommended to
reinstall DirectX® 9.0c as many games will install components that may cause
DirectX® 9.0c to corrupt. Those not using DirectX® 9.0c (or newer version) is
urged to update to the latest version of DirectX® for Multi-Player in Star Trek
Starfleet Command III® as DirectPlay® components of DirectX 9.0c (and newer) is
not compatible with earlier versions of DirectX® and may cause drops in
missions, out of sync, or severe lag during game play. This is stated in the
Microsoft DirectX® FAQ. To update DirectX® 9.0c (or newer), you can visit the
Microsoft Web Site located at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx . Please check this
site periodically as well as Windows® Updates in order to ensure that your
DirectX® is the latest version with all the security updates.
6)Before Installing the SFC 3 Patch 1.01 Beta 2
Build v534, make sure that you DO NOT install the separate installer items
below. The items below are designed for an unpatched game streight out of box
(v464) and the items below are already included in the v534 patch, which means
that installing the below items before or after the v534 patch will cause the
game to corrupt when you install the patch.
A) SFC 3 DirectX 9 Fix
B) Nemisis Add-On Package
C) Borg Mini Compaign
7)Windows® XP® Users : Right click on your
desktop shortcut and select Properties. In the Properties pop up dialogue box,
click on the Compatibility Tab, look near the bottom of the Dialogue box for
"Disable Visual Themes" and put a check into the box next it. Click OK.
8)Players may experience CTD prior to mission
loads. This may be caused by software running in the background, such as
Logitech Mouse Dirvers, certain brands of Firewalls, Connection Accelerators,
Web Accelerators, etc. It is recommended that you click on the Start Button,
click on RUN, type in MSCONFIG and click OK. Then in the Pop-up Dialogue box,
click on the START-UP Tab and uncheck everything that is absolutely not needed
at system start up. the majority of times, on Windows XP machines, You can
uncheck everything. On Windows 98 / ME, you must leave SYSTEM TREY and
SCANREGISTRY checked, and the rest can be unchecked in most cases.
9)People also need to keep their Video Card
drivers up to date from the Video Card manufacturer. Such as Geforce owners can
go to the NVidia web site and check for latest version of drivers and Radeon
card owners can go to the ATI web site for their drivers. Never get drivers from
the Windows Update Website as they are known to cause problems when gaming. If
you upgrade your drivers and you experience game problems such as crashing or
improper ship rendering, then back step your drivers 1 version at a time until
the game works properly. For some video card users, you may have to adjust your
desktop color resolution to 16 bit, but only after exhausting the Driver Version
methods. Laptops owners will need to check the manufacturer of their laptop for
newer video driver versions as video card manufacturers will not support laptop
or notebook computer video cards.
10)SFC 3 is registry dependant. This means that
the directory you instgalled to from the game CD the last time you installed the
game, the game will have to be launched from that directory in order for the
program to operate properly. As such, I have 2 examles :
#1. If you installed SFC 3 once from the game CD to say for example C rogram
FilesActivisionSFC3 and then you copied the SFC 3 game folder and pasted it
into a different directory and renamed the Copy of the SFC 3 game folder, let's
say for example, to SFC 3 GAW, then because the last place the CD installed to
is C rogram FilesActivisionSFC3, te player will have to rename his SFC 3
game folder to something like SFC3Orig and rename the SFC3GAW folder to SFC3 and
put it in the C rogram FilesActivision folder in order for the game to
operate correctly online.
#2 If you installed the SFC 3 game from the CD first to C rogram
FilesActivisionSFC3 and then reinstalled SFC 3 again from CD to C rogram
FilesActivisionSFC3DOM, in order to play the first install of the game, you
will need to rename SFC3DOM to something else like SFC3DOMWAR and then rename
the SFC3 folder to SFC3DOM.-You can just rename the game folders as you wish to
play the game, however SFC 3 is Registry Key reliant in order to play
Multi-player. Problems that occur when playing SFC 3 outside the proper game
folder are as follows :
1) Lock-ups or non connection during Direct Play test when joining the Dynaverse
2) CD Key in Use error
3) Dropping during mission
4) Ghosting in missions or on server
5) Causing the Server Economy for your race to not update correctly
6) Causing Server to give incorrect mission matching paramaters
7) Causing others to drop during missions.
8) Failing to join in missions.
9) Causing others to fail in joining in missions.
There are more problems that occur, but these are the top 9 problems occurring
when running SFC 3 outside the proper game folder, not counting the problems
that occur due to game bugs. These problems also occurs to those using a No CD
exe file crack instead of the Taldren authorized No CD sfc.ini tweak mentioned
below. The SFC.INI tweak mentioned below is designed to let the game operate
properly. A NO CD EXE FILE CRACK is designed to rewrite code within the game exe
file, which in itself is 100% illegal plus it removes the CD Key checks and the
Install path check to the system registry, which would be identical to playing
SFC 3 outside the CD Install folder as mentioned above.
In order to properly check which folder you need to launch the game from, the
v534 patch will automatically show you the folder that your game should be
launched from. If you are still not sure which folder the game should launch
from, then go to your Start button, click on Run, type in "regedit" (without the
quotes) and then look for
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareActivisionStar Trek Starfleet Command III
and look for the sub key of "Install Path". This is where you must launch SFC 3
from in order to reduce the number of problems that you may experience with the
game. Do not attempt to change the registry entry nor add entries to the system
registry.. SFC 3 only allows for 1 valid entry in your system registry which is
created by your CD install of the game (the last time the game was installed
from CD).
Once you get the patch and server kit downloads, please update your mirrors with
this file and delete any previous v534 patches so that confusion will be a
minimum.. The goal is to get everyone playing SFC 3 to v534_b.

Pille From: Joined: July 22nd, 2002 Posts: 1836 | Erm, just a simple question: What about Germans or other non English people? We do not have English Windows operating systems or English DVD-drivers! And without these patches I'm unable to play that game! |

1)If you are using Windows, it must be an English version of Microsoft® Windows® 98/ME/2000/XP operating system with the regional setting set to English. Your Video card and DVD regional settings must be set to English as well.
Who wants to chip in to buy me an englisch version? I cant help it that here in holland its very hard to get an englisch version of XP, im gobsmacked i got a dutch version of XP
well, im gonna try it anyway, cant be that many differences would it?
thats hog wash i have been using the dutch XP since the game came out it works fine up to today i hardly think the 534_b will change that with only a few commensettings changes.
That is an old line from v531 that I forgot to remove from the readme file.. I just copied it and pasted it into the posting above.. sorry..
but your regional settings for your DVD and your system language settings myst be the same as the native language of your Windows OS for the game to operate correctly.. If you system Windows is Egyptian, then your DVD and Language regional settings need to be egyptian.. if your windows is English US, then your DVD and language regional settings must be English US.. and so on. that is what I need to edit for the next revision... I'll remove the statement from my current postings..
however I have had people complain about SFC 3 not working on German version of Windows, and it turned out that their DVD Regional setting was set to French.. as such, the game could not recognize CD in the drive.
That is why I added the statement, it was designed for US' systems and since the patch is somewhat unified now, I guess I can generalize the language...
hope that this helps |
Pille From: Joined: July 22nd, 2002 Posts: 1836 | Thank you for your fast answer, I'll give it a try. But all my settings are set to German and the game doesn't work for me since I installed Build v531, since then I wasn't even able to start the original with the DX9-fix any more. And I followed all instructions, so I couldn't find the mistake. |

Pille From: Joined: July 22nd, 2002 Posts: 1836 | The Windows system was checked and everything is working correctly. But some weeks ago I had to deinstall SFC3 with patch build V531(almost same error report as above) and since then reinstallations don't work. But thank you very much for your *****istance (sorry, my English isn't that good), I'll try to find the mistake. Again, thank you. |

I'm using a Swedish Windows XP and get the following access violation when I try to start the game at any of the three resolutions 1024, 1152 and 1280 (which are the ones listed by SCF3Setup.exe). I have disabled visual styles for SFC3.exe, so that's not it:

Guest (CPE-144-131-198-99.qld.bigpond.net.au) Joined: December 31st, 1969 Posts: | Hi,
I've just purchased SFC3 and thought that I'd download the v534 patch as I had problems with the Direct X fault.
I followed the instal instructions (removed SFC3 + gamespy), then reinstalled SFC3 and then tried to run this patch, but I keep getting the error "Program too big to fit in memory". I've downloaded the patch a number of times - same
error.
This error is obviously wrong, and I'm running on a XP machine 2.59 Ghz, 512MB RAM and there is a LOT of RAM memory and HDD (12Gig free) that is free. Have you guys got any suggestions about how to overcome this?
I feel that the problem may be within the way that the patch is being executed.
When I right click on the patch and click on properties then memory tab, there are heaps of different options - conventional memory, EMS, XMS and DPMI memory.
They are all set to Auto. Is this the problem?
Also I have known that other times there is a problem with the module incompatability... is this a 16bit module and the MSDOS prompt is wanting to run it as a 32 bit program? Is this what the real error is?
If you could provide any help, it would be greatly appreciated.

For one thing nocd cracks are not illegal if u bought the game and do not wish to insert the cd every time to play it.. IF you bought the game then its not illegal... if u didnt buy the game and used a nocd crack to avoid copy protection then it is. Please before u start making foolish statements read the facts. |
Guest (host-84-9-84-91.bulldogdsl.com) Joined: December 31st, 1969 Posts: | May I suggest before you start making yourself look like an idiot.. NO-CD cracks are not legal in many countries (even though I completely disagree with the law in this instance). Whatever country you may or may not come from, where No-CD cracks and their use may or may not be legal is irrelevant since this is a patch released world-wide.
I despise the way the law is going, but at least get your facts right first.. |

Im using win XP service pack 2- I've tryed downloading this patch several times with it just comming up with the error message when I double click the Icon or open it. I did accedently download the US version- that worked perfecly - except it doesnt run on the UK version.
I did use a dial up connection and have tried to download this patch from this site and Znet with the same result- Gamespot only does the US versions. WOuld it make any differance odering the patch on CD and getting it posted and getting it that way.
Anyone with answers or advice please help ( I know about the virtual themes- tried that and no change) |

I am playing off the original CD, with my own key of course. Plenty of RAM and Processor speed. My graphics card runs at about 256megs and believe it or not, it's a watercooled system...so I don't have a problem with processors or video cards heating up. Any other help would be greatly appreciated though. Thanks guys and gals. |
Guest (84.9.84.255) Joined: December 31st, 1969 Posts: | This is a general reply to earlier moans and a little moan from myself...
The DOS prompt flashing up and disappearing is because it's set to 'close on exit' in Right-Click>Properties>Program. That's not the problem though...
The 'too big for memory' or whatever message is just a DOS problem inherent in the patch being DOS based. Windows XP does not have DOS at all; but instead attempts to emulate it, and because the emulation is bad it just doesn't seem to recognise modern volumes of memory (anyone who has tried to get Cannon Fodder to run will know this). This basically means that we with no programming knowledge have little hope of getting it to run unless a windows installer is made for us (which, for the record, I am flabberghasted they didn't do in the first place seeing as DOS was pretty much killed in gaming donkey's ago).
Also if you can't get the patch file to delete afterwards try GiPo MoveOnBoot (just search in google, it's timed freeware). The reason is because the file has been cached and this only clears on shutting the system down, because you can't get at the file easily when the systems doing this MoveOnBoot does it for you, before the file gets loaded back into the cache automatically on restart.
Anyhoo I'm gonna keep searching the net to see if anyone has made a windows installer version or repacked the patch or anything some genius manages to come up with... until then it's back on the shelf with SFC3. |

The correct version has a size of 40 MB. The incorrect version is 30 MB and that seems to be the version available at this site. You can find a link to the correct version here....

That one installed for me with no problems...with the 30 MB patch I kept getting the "Too big to fit in memory" error. Hope this helps some of you. |

I got the download from this site, followed the installation guide to the letter, and got set up. I also applied two mods: the valdore class and the mod that improves the graphics on the quantum torpedo and other weapons. The game seems to run fine except in one scenario. Specifically, in the single player skirmish mode, if I try to change the civilization to "Borg", the game crashes and displays the exception error window. Any response will be appreciated. |

Zachrulez Joined: March 4th, 2006 Posts: 1 | I have recently reinstalled starfleet command and the latest beta 534 patch only to find that the game does not work. The reason for this will probably make everyone feel sick to their stomachs. You see, I installed the STOCK version of the game, and it worked perfectly. WTF you might ask... but the only thing different about my system from then to now is that I installed the december 2005 redistrubution of direct X, which is the latest version. It basically fixes the direct x 9 issues with starfleet command making the direct x 9 fix obselete (at least from my observations) Furthermore installing the direct x 9 fix to my game after upgrading direct X renders my version of the game unable to play! If I am correct (and my observations of the evidence STRONGLY point in that direction) the direct x 9 fix MUST BE REMOVED from all future patches of the game.
If you have direct x redist dec 2005, I have a feeling the only way you will be able to play the game will be to use the stock version. The game must be patched without the direct x 9 fix in order to work now. ... sounds like fun doesn't it?
Every attempt I have made to install any direct X fix for the game on my computer has resulted in the game crashing. The only way I have managed to get it to work is by installing the stock version of the game.
It would seem later versions of direct X have dealt with this problem somewhere down the line and fixed the game themselves.
If you are having trouble with the game, perhaps using the stock version will make it work, if so, we will probably need a new patch for the NEW version of direct x (yay)
It would be nice if Activision actually came out themselves and addressed the issue, it's been over 3 years and they haven't come out with ANYTHING in the way of their OWN official patch for the game. It's just ridiculous, all they would need to do is address the problem and fix it in a small patch or whatever it is they do, instead of leaving us to fend for ourselves after giving them boatloads of money for buying the game... *****s.
I have tried at least 3 times to install this patch EXACTLY as it says in the download page, and it has failed to work every time. My only conclusion can be that the direct x 9 fix is what is screwing it up because I have upgraded my direct x version 2 months ago and THE GAME WORKED PERFECTLY FINE BEFORE I DID THAT! I suddenly find myself with the same problem that was fixed years ago, because my version seemingly conflicts with the fix... |

AlDaja From: Joined: September 4th, 2006 Posts: 438 | Does anyone know how to safely deactivate the Casino missions for the 534_b patch by Activision within single player without miffing the rest of the game? It is a really annoying part of the upgrade…I want to be able to move through hexes, and know a mission light up is relative to a scan, distress call or other mission…if I wanted to play cards, etc. I’d play a different game… |
AlDaja From: Joined: September 4th, 2006 Posts: 438 | Now that I have played a bit…the casino missions are not as prevalent the more you play and as you gain prestige and rank (note: you will now loose rank and prestige if you miff a mission or loose your ship or receive heavy damage in battle without just cause (i.e. destroying transports or keeping your AI alive)). For new file down-loaders the patch (in addition to what it states in the read me) allows the AI not to be as stupid and makes the game challenging. The game for me places specific functioned ships (like boarder-cutters Saber, Orthos, Griffin, etc.) in the neutral zone and allows for cloak ambushing if you are playing as the Federation or Borg; meaning ships sneak up on you when the hex is suppose to be empty. Also I have on occasion almost gotten my butt kicked and then one, two or three AI brethren will warp into the hex out of nowhere and save my kiester; really cool. Likewise, additional enemy AI may warp into a hex to assist if you are attacking (is this happening for other gamers?). Also there are specific missions even on conquest mode that allows you to gain higher rank and other awards…some folks are having problems with the patch using XP. I have the patch installed with windows home edition XP and am running fine. It is important that you update the graphic card/program on your computer and have the latest direct X like it says to do. With regard to adding ships, it should not be a problem. I added ships (30+) that I used in the pre-patched version with no problems…however; if the graphics on some of the ship modes you download are not complete or have sloppy graphics the game WILL tell you to pound sand resulting in an exception error. I had a couple of these errors, found the problematic ships, removed them and it fixed the problem.
Until Activision or whomever comes out with SFCIV this will have to do. |

AlDaja From: Joined: September 4th, 2006 Posts: 438 | I have XP and the game works just fine for the English version anyway. Make sure you guys don’t install Direct X 8 or install the latest Direct X separately (already comes with the patch) or Gamespy before uploading the patch or the game will crash every time. My XP automatically adjusts for the visual themes…so I would assume your version of XP would do the same, but its Microsoft so what can I say.
The only thing I don’t like about the patch is that the BORG vessels have been severely wimped. Now other vessels can pass through the BORG Cubes and auto-tractor is no longer available like it was on the out-of-the-box version. Hopefully one of the staff members can give me some assistance to bypass this feature. Otherwise a very good patch (except for the casino missions on free play WTF!) |

That is true, but its good when youre fighting against it, but not when you r playing as it. But I also found that when I downloaded this patch that when I tried to reinforce shields, it would drain others, and that didnt happen when i first got the game. Is there a way to bypass this? |

This makes no sense to me. I have turned off visual themes, ran it in windows 2000 compatability mode....nothing! This is the fifth time I have installed this game. It seems to me that there are more complaints then there are accolaides. |
Menalaos From: Joined: May 25th, 2006 Posts: 30 | I have a slightly different problem.
Since installing the patch, the single player campaigns - each and every one of them - no longer work. It goes through the usual loading screens with the information like stay near the homeworld etc, but at the point where you click to go to the map, it's stops and just says:
There was an error connection to the server.
Nothing more. And I have to reset to get the program to shut down. |

This is because your using either an Audigy4 or X-Fi soundcard. Note the EAX error part. Go into the SFC.INI file and under [Sound] Disable = 0 chage that to =1. You won't get sound but the game will run just fine. I play it on XP x64 SP2 so yes it will run on x64 systems. YOU DO NOT NEED TO INSTALL DX8 or remove DX9. I can personally verify that this works 100% because it was the problem I had after running the game with my new X-Fi when it worked fine with my onboard sound. |

You would be correct. As soon as I finished downloading the file AVG flashed up in beautifully coulorful lights to warn me that the file is corrupted with "Adware Generic3.EDK".
What do I do about this? And more importantly what are the developers of this patch going to do about this? For now, I'm going to move the file to the virus vault and see what happens from now on.

anyway, every time i try to download the patch, when it gets to 99% iget a virus warning from AVG that saysit is infected with Adware Generic3..EGK
maybe, just in the interest of saving others from this problem, you (or the admins, as the case may be) cam remove the file and repost a clean version of it?
anyway, much thanx for the many GOOD files on this site, which I make extensive use of 0 =

Is it that the Admins don't CARE that they are spreading a bad file, or is it intentional? Or could it just be that there is NO non-corrupt version of it?
IN any case, i will continue my search for a clean version, and if i manage to find one, I will try to upload it here and HOPE it stays clean.....

Run under : Windows 2000
Check box : Disable Visuale theme
Then you can play the game! |
